There are many things we expect to occur during a rap concert, profanity, twerking done the right way, and maybe a gun shot or two but the last thing to be expected would be an announcement by an artist that they recently gave their life to Christ. That is exactly what happened on Kanye West‘s tour this week when rapper Kendrick Lamar gave a shoutout to his bishop at the Staples Center revealing he had recently been baptized.
“I am now protected in not only the physical realm but the spiritual realm,” Lamar shouted out to the audience. West and Lamar are a perfect match to go on tour together as the Yeezy tour is filled with spiritual references including a visit from white Jesus and his disciples at every show. During his breakout album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Lamar finished the record with what appears to be the voices of youth getting saved.
We’re glad to see Kendrick Lamar getting saved. We know who else needs to get saved again, gospel artist Kevin Terry who has a sex tape out with him performing better than Kanye’s fiancé Kim Kardashian.
