Just a month before her Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood starts, news of Britney Spears‘ music being used by the British Navy to scare off Somali pirates surfaces. Tales of lackluster ticket sales have already been circulating and hearing that this her music is used as some form of torture second to water boarding, we doubt this will help convince people to see her in concert.
We’ve all seen the previews of the movie Captain Phillips where Tom Hanks‘ ship gets overtaken by Somali pirates. Apparently, they absolutely hate all things western and hearing tunes like Oops I Did It Again are just like shooting cannons at them.
“Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most” Merchant Naval Officer Rachel Owens says. “These guys can’t stand western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can.”
Not to be funny, but with all of the homophobia in the world I would expect the pirates would attack just for listening to Britney. After all, grown men blasting Britney Spears from a ship seems cause for suspicion unless the pirates fear they’ll be interrupting some form of sodomy. Spears will be releasing her eighth album, Britney Jean December 3rd. Her Vegas residency starts December 27th.
Do you find Britney Spears’ music an acceptable form of torture?
